Despite the frigid weather this week, baseball season is less than two months away! Here is a quick update for you on what is happening behind the scenes.
PHO and Baseball
With the existing PHO order being extended, MSLL is preparing dual plans for each division for games permitted vs no games. We sincerely hope youth sport will return to phase 3 where games are happening within our league. Should Phase 2 continue, we will have a plan in place to balance drills, practice and fun! Kids don’t want to do drills for 10 weeks and we know that.
Treasurer Needed!
Yes this is now the third request to fill the Treasurer position in the past year! We have had two amazing volunteers step up only to have life get in the way forcing them to regretfully resign. The past Treasurer is now your current President! This is clearly a conflict and while we have many safeguards in place such as dual signatures on the bank account, we MUST fill this Treasurer position immediately! Contact president@msll.ca if you are interested or have any questions.
Spring Training
Watch your inbox for Spring Training details and registration! Our Coach Coordinator has set up four weekends of spring training for all divisions run by Bullpen Baseball School. These will run every weekend in March down at Myrtle. Brush off the glove and get our kids back outside throwing the ball!
Development Teams
Also coming to those with baseball ages in 9/10 and 11/12, will be the Development Program registration. This is for players wanting more baseball during regular season (priority attendance to their house team). Teams are capped at 18. Development teams will be put together at the end of February and run from March to the end of May. Questions go to coaching@msll.ca
Note: Spring Training priority is given to players not registering for Development Teams.
Registration Close Date – February 15
We will be doing a soft close for registration on February 15. This allows us to manage numbers and start building teams for the youngest age groups, while booking assessment days for Minors and Majors. If you register late, you will be waitlisted initially and added if/where there is space.
Community
Many younger players have made friend requests which we hope to accommodate! Reach out to those friends and ensure they have registered as well. Chat it up!
Coaching/managing/safety ambassadors are needed! Regardless of games or no games, parents will not be permitted to stay as spectators. If you’d like to be more involved, consider coaching, managing or volunteering to be a safety ambassador. Contact registrar@msll.ca or president@msll.ca to volunteer if you haven’t already!
Thank you all for your continued support of Mt Seymour Little League!
