The 2018 Playoff Schedule for AA, AAA and Majors is now ready. It will be updated on the MSLL website and app very soon.
Building the Schedule
Creating the playoff schedule is always a complicated task as we are trying to fit a large number of games into a limited amount of field space, while trying to make the days rest as balanced as possible across all teams. We do not look at the regular season standings when creating the schedule – and despite the occasional conspiracy theory that floats around the park – we do not assign certain teams to more challenging schedules! Instead the schedule is created using numbers and then we draw lots for which team gets each numbered slot. To draw lots we used an app called “Lots Lots Fun” – you can watch a screen recording of the Majors draw here: MajorsDraw
Playoff Format
The playoff format each year is dictated by the number of teams in the division and the amount of available space. The goal is to give all teams as many games as possible and end the season with a Championship Game between the 2 top teams in the playoffs.
Majors: Each team will play each other once in a single round robin. The top 2 teams at the end of the round robin will advance to the Championship. If teams are tied for points, the tie-breaker rule will apply.
AAA: Each team will play each other once in a single round robin. The top 2 teams at the end of the round robin will advance to the Championship. If teams are tied for points, the tie-breaker rule will apply.
AA: Each team will play 4 games – the draw of opponents was random. The top 2 teams at the end of the round robin will advance to the Championship. If teams are tied for points, the tie-breaker rule will apply.
